Encryption and Security

Recovery Keys

Every time you encrypt a file, typealot generates a one-time recovery key — a backup way to unlock the file if you ever forget its password.

Save it when it's shown

Immediately after encrypting, a Save Your Recovery Key dialog appears with a warning:

This is shown only once. Save it somewhere safe — typealot cannot recover it for you.

The key looks like tal-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Click Copy to clipboard and store it somewhere safe (a password manager is ideal), then click I've saved it.

Why it matters

typealot's encryption is designed so that no one — including typealot — can unlock your file without the password or the recovery key. If you lose both, the file cannot be recovered. That's what makes it secure, and why saving the recovery key is so important.
